The little things we can’t see when capturing a piece of the night

Night photography, or long exposure photography, can provide information that our eyes just can’t see. Streaks of light painted into frame from moving objects is just one example of how different the camera and the eye perceive. Over the years, Vince has created a wide variety of long exposure images using digital, 35mm film, 120mm film, and large format 4x5 sheet film. With exposure times stretching anywhere between a few seconds and a few minutes, capturing pieces of the night requires a whole new rule book, but one that’s well worth learning.

Mini Series - Dreaming of Reality

Focused on the combination of nighttime long exposure photography and Vince’s interpretation of how we remember places, Dreaming of Reality certainly is a weird collection of work. Collecting and recalling scattered pieces of information, multiple mechanisms in the mind function unconsciously to correctly interpret what is being remembered. This collection of fully digital work directly combines Vince’s knowledge of art and psychology, creating images that attempt to match those scattered pieces of information we remember. Vince takes and constructs these images using the planar panoramic method, physically moving the camera in set distances instead of stationary rotation.
